What are you doing for others?

By ChloƩ Rada, Senior Marketing Manager - Talent Acquisition at Sodexo

MLK Day is the chance to start the year off right by committing to make service a part of your everyday life.   Whether it be an act of volunteer service today or a charitable act in the future, you can make a difference in health and well-being of the people living in your community.

At Sodexo, the service spirit is part of our culture and our employees proudly demonstrate care for our communities through our STOP Hunger Initiative.  As part of this initiative, Sodexo employees around the world fight hunger during our Annual Servathon.  As part of this month long drive last April, I pledged to teach healthy nutrition at a Community Health and Fun Fair. I set up educational stations around health and wellness in the gymnasium and snapped photos of my colleagues “I will” statements. You can read how the “I will” statements illustrated pride for one of them here!

This year in an effort to give back to our various communities across the country, my department, the Talent Acquisition Group, is holding "Virtual Days of Service" to encourage us to get involved!  We’ve been asked to provide a picture of us participating in a meaningful service event, which will be shared in a video during our national meeting next month.  I’m looking forward to my service day at a local food pantry as much as I am celebrating our team’s altruism.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?’ So, locate a volunteer opportunity in your community and join me in keeping Dr. King’s legacy of service alive.

This quote, especially coming from Martin Luther King is very inspiring. With it being the new year it's a great time to take on something new and do more for others. Giving back is beneficial to others but can make you feel good as well.
